Planning ahead

If you expect to be traveling internationally in the upcoming months, consider a credit card that does not charge foreign transaction fees. Also look for a bank card that will refund your ATM fees.

Look for credit and debit cards that offer perks that will be useful during your extended international travel. Find a bank that offers an ATM card that doesn’t charge foreign transaction fees and will refund your ATM fees. Obtaining a Visa to India

We were planning to go directly to India from Istanbul. However, a slight change in plans had us going to the Greek Islands instead. We would be island-hopping and there would be no time to obtain a visa in Greece. We had three weeks in Istanbul, which would be plenty of time to obtain the visa and we were staying within walking distance of the Consulate General of India in Istanbul.

One of the things we wanted to try on this trip is traveling by ferry. Based on our itinerary, we had a couple good options – either from Iceland to Scotland or somewhere on the Black Sea. We didn’t have any luck on the Northern Atlantic, so the Black Sea it was.

Great is the art of beginning, but greater is the art of ending.

We had to say goodbye to many people we love in United States before starting our trip.

We decided to not tell our parents about the trip until we were completely serious and set on going for it, which we realized we actually were before too long. Next, we decided that it would be best to tell them in person, which means we would have to travel to Ohio where both sides of the family live. Knowing my parents, I knew they wouldn’t exactly be thrilled about this plan.

What’s a girl to pack for an Around the World trip?

How do you pack for something like this? Especially as a girl…I will be saying goodbye to some of my most prized possessions for a long time such as purses, boots, skirts, high heels, most jewelry and my collection of perfumes. It won’t be easy but it’s part of the experience: stripping away all the luxurious things that don’t truly make one happy and striving to live a simple life without the pursuit for materialistic joys that only clutter our lives.

So what went into my backpack (other than memories)?
